New Stuff

My birthday presents: A really nice UConn watch, and a pair of gloves. I don't think I've ever owned anything as nice as this watch, makes me feel like a real adult when I wear it. Good thing the gloves make me feel like an oversized kid. Wouldn't want to grow up fully, that would be scary... Thanks Kara! The old gloves were a bit worse for wear...

Snow?

Image
Well, it snowed about 3 inches yesterday. Now it's 50 and melting, and supposed to be 75 by the middle of the week. Huh... I got up early and took a walk in the park, trying to catch the snow before it all melts away.. There was a lot of nature out and about, birds, bunnies, and chipmunks mostly.. Western Scrub Jay: Northern Flicker: Part of a yucca The goal of the trip was to photo a cactus covered in snow. When I found one wasn't completely covered, the photos didn't turn out that great.. Oh well, some of the others turned out alright so I guess it wasn't a total wash..

Palmer Park

So my interview seemed to go pretty well. The company is actually only one person, but seems to be exactly what I'm looking for. Designing random things from giant pressure tanks to monorail components for Malaysia. The president/only full time employee seems like a nice guy, and has some pretty cool experience under his belt. Seems like a good boss, even laughed a bit at my token very tasteful, well placed joke. I'll find out by the end of the week what happens. On an unrelated note, here are a bunch of pictures of the local park . It's a very interesting place, with some really weird rock formations. Really good biking too. Lots of little cacti and yuccas, with 20something miles of trails ranging from pretty smooth to just barely ridable scary.

Three Things That Make You go "huh?"

Ahh, The Black Stallion series. A staple of American elementary eduction.. Wait, the black stallion's colt is named Satan? Huh... I changed my address online, and they sent the change of address notice to the old address, not the new one.. I think this may be related to the fact I haven't gotten my new debit card in 7 weeks now. They've sent out three of them, and none have made it here yet. But the bills are on time..... Normally these are three colors. I'd have to say that I'm pretty disappointed in the candy corn industry as a whole these days.

Happenings

So I have a phone interview for a job this afternoon. Going to spend the rest of the day preparing. I even got a spankin' new haircut .. Well, the haircut was before I knew about this, but whatever. The 7 year old shirt goes well with the fancy hair right? Kara got a more drastic cut, she's currently enjoying the breeze on the back of her neck. Last night I went on a ride with a group of people at the local park. I rode a trail I've never seen before, and got to try my hand at action shots a bit. This park has really good riding, I have more pictures of it that I plan on putting up later. Apparently it's dry almost year round too. Kurt, who bosses engineers around for a living Shawn, a CNC operator Alright, now to prepare some answers to common interview questions...

The highest I've ever been...

Image
Rode to the top of Mt. Baldy yesterday. The elevation at the top was 12,334 feet, about 1,000 feet higher than the second highest I've ever been atop Lone Peak at Big Sky. It was a typical rocky mountain ride with 2.5 hours of climbing and about .5 hours of descending as fast as I was comfortable with. The aspens around here are towards the end of their days at the higher ups, and about halfway done lower down. They are pretty, but only once color compared to the reds, oranges, and yellows of New England. According to my photography book, the yellow leaves and blue skies complement eachother well, and make for nice color contrast for the pictures. They seem ok to me, but what do I know? The summit isn't visited much, even though it's only 20 feet shorter than Almagre, the second tallest peak near town. There was a small pile of rocks, so I built this. Should last about 10 days until the next storm. Where pickups go to die.. Thats Pikes Peak in the back, Almagre (cool name f...

Mining

Image
Took a trip to Victor, CO this weekend. This is where the CO goldrush hit big, they pulled over 400 Million dollars of gold ore out of the ground here before the year 1900. I think that works out to around 13 billion today. There are still some active mines around, but most never recovered from the mandated mining shutdown during WWII. Thats alot of money for a town that now has only 455 residents, down from over 10,000 back in the day.

Palmer Park and Ute Valley Park. Palmer is right next to our house, and Ute is a bit south. Both are city parks in the middle of the town, and have excellent trails.
