Great Sand Dunes National Park

Image
We went to Great Sand Dunes National Park yesterday, and it was pretty damn cool. Click on any of these pictures or here for a many more. We stayed the night in Pueblo Saturday night (interesting town). It seemed deserted for some reason, who knows. The historic district had a bunch of redone old buildings right down to repainting the advertisements you always see faded away into the bricks on these sorts of buildings. That morning we drove down to the dunes through La Veta Pass into the San Louis valley. This remined me of rural Wyoming or Montana, deserted and really pretty. Blanca Peak and Mount Lindsey dominated the landscape rising from to 14,000 feet from the valley floor. After arriving at the dunes, we enjoyed a full day of walking around in Medeno Creek, frollicking, getting sunburn, jumping off of dunes, etc, etc.. After eating a a Navajo Taco at the nearby suprisingly non-sketchy restaurant we returned to the dunes to climb the second highest one, High Dune, before s...

So the weather around here certainly is warmer than our respective places of origin. That doesn't mean the snow is gone in the nearby mountains though. Sunday I linked up two rides: St. Mary's Falls and Jones Park. It took about two hours longer than I had thought it would with plenty of tramping through snow and walking my bike up impossibly steep and loose trail. It was great! Some of the snowy trail: After reaching the top and descending back down the temperature rose back to a respectable level and the trail got better than excellent. The pipeline trail follows an old city water pipe made from ceramic sections.. cool I think I'll wait a few more weeks before doing this one again.. It's definitely one I'll do again though.. Here's a map I made in google, I'm pretty much guessing the last 1/4 (cw around the loop). View Larger Map

Remember the days when you had to call people to order a pizza? We just ordered a pizza from Dominos through the internet and I'm currently watching it's progress to our door. First Dustin started prepping the order.. Then he put the sucker in the oven. Four minutes for prep, I could do it in 1 back in the day.. (just sayin', his is probably better) Then Adam got it on the road: And then we both made ourselves ill eating it.. Now this certainly doesn't help the constantly expanding waistline of the average American, but it certainly is cool... Word on the street is they're experimenting with adding GPS to the drivers so you can track the pizza in real time..

.. But Will it Blend?

Willitblend.com has had a great set of videos in the last few years. If you have some free time, check out their site. It's pretty hilarious some of the things they've blended over the years.. Here's the Ipod, Chuck Norris and the remote control are also pretty sweet.. TV Remote Chuck Norris

Pike's Peak: America's Mountain

I snowboarded some chutes off of the auto road on Pikes Peak on Sunday with a couple of folks from work. We would ride to the top and someone would drive down while the rest skied down. It was quite fun, the weather was quite nice too, something that isn't particularly common up there. It's sort of funny that I've only been snowboarding twice this year but didn't seem to forget how.. I guess it's like riding a bike.. So that's why I'm out of breath.. The view is pretty nice, Monument is in the far background with various drinking water reservoirs in the foreground. (ps, Colorado Springs' water was voted #2 in a blind taste test of major municipalities) Dave, my Quality Engineer's bosses husband: Some dork on a snowboard: The road we drove up is in the background of this one.
