Makin' Snowboards

Will and I finished the mold for our snowboards tonight. It's adjustable 44cm to make almost any size snowboard you could want, from 156 to 200cm. It's made out of 3/4" MDF cut with a router from a template made with Will's CNC mill. The mill gets it's template from a virtual model I made using Solidworks. Kind of like real engineering. It is accurate to .005" so sanding is seldom necessary. It's really weird to put together something made of wood with such high tolerances, everything just fits really well. Unlike anything else I've made out of wood. . .

Next step is to make a wood core for my snowboard, probably out of some Bitterroot valley spruce trees and some kind of hardwood laminated in strips. I have ordered the rest of the parts and hope to make the board by the end of spring.
