Vegas

So a paper I submitted with a post-doc from Iowa got accepted to the 2007 ASME International Design Engineering Technical Conferences (IDETC) which will take place on September 4-7, 2007, at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada.

So, yeah 4 days in Vegas on UConn... Spend a day or two at Bootleg Canyon, attend the conference and present a paper comparing kinetostatic and dynamic approaches to protein potential energy minimization. (a fancy title for a fairly simple paper) shouldn't be too bad eh?

Burning something and throwing it off a cliff is a good way to reduce potential (and chemical) energy. You should present that.

I could say that while this program does a pretty decent job, setting the protein on fire still works better.

February 26 Loffelsterz

   Destination: Erica Bruennle for sleeping, Loffelstertz Lake for Eating 11km, 46 minutes. Fast roads Temperature: down to 0, a little frost in the morning but not much.  OR Intersteller Bivy, EE 20 deg quilt, Thermarest Xtherm, Rumpl, Rab Dagwalkinjacket Three scoops of Huel still wasn't enough, but the Cajun pasta was pretty good. Ate dinner by the lake, but it was too windy to be comfortable sleeping there.  Will likely try and stay at a trekking Erlebnis place next time with a proper campfire. We'll see.  Sleeping was cold, slept with the Rumpl on top of the quilt/bivy which probably compressed the down. Managed a reasonable night's sleep either way. Sleep system still needs work.. Blaek coffee is great, and two is more than enough.
