From South Boundary Trail Went to Taos, NM this weekend and rode a classic ride called the South Boundary trail. It's a shuttled ride with about a 1000 feet of climbing in the beginning, another 700ish later, and about 6000 of descending along cool singletrack like what you see above. More pictures if you click on the link..

F orgive me, I've been busy doing other things like riding my bike and spending time off the internets. I have a backlog of pictures from some random rides, so here they are... The first one will link to a few more. This is a ride near where I work, It's currently covered in snow. From Random Then we move on to a lesser known ride around here, it starts with a dirt road climb for nearly an hour. Good scenery: Then you descend into a cool limestone canyon with trail unlike most of what you find around here. Creek crossings, real dirt, more like the east coast than here.. The canyon itself is quite scenic too, limestone isn't very common around here. I did this ride last Friday and it was really cool to be able to have a place all to my own, I spent a fair amount of time just enjoying the scenery. Then there was the ride on Wednesday before the snowstorm. My friend Kristian just got a Truvativ Hammershmidt, a two speed epicyclic gearbox that replaces the front derr...

Happenings

So my last couple of weeks have been pretty eventful. First of all, I made step torwards (and possibly one back as well) being an adult and bought myself a nice car complete with car loan and everything. It's a 2005 Subaru WRX wagon, not exactly an adult car. It's fast and fun, plus it has all sorts of airbags and ABS so it's safe too.. Plus it's faster than my roomates Mini Cooper S, and that's all that really matters right? From WRX That took of most of Saturday, but Sunday brought on a trip to Pueblo, CO which was outlined in a previous post. The next weekend I went to a "hut" up near Vail for Saturday night with a bunch of friends from work and a few other people. It was pretty flat so there wasn't very much snowboarding involved, but I got a chance to try out my splitboard and skins for the three mile trek in. They worked well, and the trip was alot of fun. From Jay's Cabin Now for another week of work.. The weather's been pretty...

Arizona

So before I get too behind schedule I'll post up some photos and such from our Christmas trip to AZ. The trip started with a decent drive to Salina Utah, the intersection of my drive and the parents/brothers trip from Montana.  Mine was uneventful, theirs was awful, with the worst driving conditions pretty much ever.  From theirs:    After that night, we all piled in the same car and continued south through Vegas and into Arizona.  A quick stop in Vegas for in 'n out burgers and then a quick ride in Bootleg Canyon broke up the drive a bit. From Christmas in AZ one We arrived at my Aunt and Uncles late-ish that night, ate some awesome Lasagna and went to bed. The next day included a bike ride at Phoenix's South Mountain, the largest city park in the U.S.  It was some good desert riding with rocky trails and aggressive plants. From Weekend in AZ That night we went to the Phoenix Desert Botanical Garden and checked out a bunch of cool plants and glass sculptures. From Chri...

It was 60 and sunny yesterday so I went for a ride a mere 5 minutes from where I work. Go figure, I do that commute every day and end up doing it on the weekend too. It was definitely worth it, especially since it's been alternating between snow and rain all day today. The weather is supposed to clear up though, and I'm looking forward to meeting up with the clone and some other friends from Bozeman in Fruita on Friday for more bike riding. Because everyone needs personalized brake levers..

S o I've been wanting to do this ride pretty much since I got here but the timing and my fitness has never been quite right.  Things fell together though so I went for it. Barr trail starts at 6,600 feet and climbs to the top of pikes peak at 14,100 ft over 13 miles.  So that works out to about 7500 feet elevation gain, throw a few ups and downs in there and you're around 8k.. So I knew it was going to hurt, but I did it anyways.  What does that mean? I started at 6:30 just as the sun was starting to rise.  The light kept getting better and better so I stopped and took a bunch of pictures.  The first one has a link to the album where there are many more than shown here.. From Barr out and back The initial climb is pretty steep and switchbacked until it reaches Barr Camp, which is a grandfathered cabin in the middle of the Forest Service that serves food, sells candy bars, and caters to overnight guests.  Pretty cool place to stay really, it's roughly half way up elevation w...
